It is illegal to offer to, much less actually commit an act of, selling or buying human organs or fetal tissue.

BTW, he offered to buy fetal tissue. A clear violation of the law. The charges of using fake ID is weaker. There is a chance they can tap dance around that one and get it reduced to a misdemeanor according to some lawyers. But the other charge is clearly felony.

This is sort of like the Republicans who decided to "prove" voter fraud by committing it. If you break laws, you aren't protected as a journalist. Some think it is worth the risk. But it isn't a get out of jail free card. Just like taking over government facilities and threatening government workers isn't okay because you convinced yourself that the Constitution says something it doesn't.

Whether or not you agree with the tactics of CMP, the charges brought against them set dangerous precedents for investigative journalists everywhere.

How so? Faking IDs is not considered ethical for investigative journalists. There are some who consider it unethical to even deny being journalists. You get too many of your ideas of how things work from movies and TV. The real world is different. I suppose you regard O'Keefe as an ethical journalist. He isn't. That is why he is a convicted felon.

But, I understand. The ends justify the means is all that counts for Republicans...
