On this day in history, February 8, 1894, Democrat President Grover Cleveland--with support from a Democrat-controlled congress--repealed the Enforcement Act of 1870.

The Enforcement Act was passed by Republican President Ulysess S. Grant and a Republican Congress. It allowed the federal government to protect freed blacks, in Southern states, from the Ku Klux Klan during elections.
