If you look at the study this Phil Plait guy is writing about there, you'll see it doesn't attempt to prove or disprove warming. It's only comparing one set of thermometers (the Climate Reference Network) to another set of thermometers (USHCN, as adjusted by homogenization algoreithms).

And the "master" set of thermometers, described as pristine - the Climate Reference Network - only goes back to 2004 so the study doesn't prove adjustments to prior decades temperature records were valid.
