Daniel, I think I recall that back in 1992 Apple demonstrated their then current operating system running on PCs to major PC makers. The PC manufacturers were impressed and willing to offer Mac OS but they refused to pay Apple for the right to install. Why? Because Microsoft arrangement with PC makers required a license payment to Microsoft for each and every computer they built, whether or not it included the Microsoft OS.

All the above is dredged up from dim memory and may not be accurate...
can anyone out there confirm this bit of trivia?
