Not entirely true, and not enough justification for the Feds owning almost all of Nevada and half of the west.

In the case of Nevada, the feds own that land because no one wanted it. Even the state, which gave large tracts of it to the government because they didn't want to pay to maintain it. The government tried to give it away for decades. Same is true for much of the West.
