Someone who wanted to change back to something still wants change. Hey, the Nazis wanted change and not just change back to something, they wanted a new racial and social order that had never existed. Guess that makes them liberals per your simple definition.

In fact, I don't believe in any ideal golden age of the past. I want to make things better, so that makes me a real progressive.

But I don't think we can ever achieve an ideal on earth, we can only make things marginally better. We should be careful of changing things too much, because people are FU'd and the changes people make usually go wrong.
