People are imperfect, not paragons of righteousness and altruism. That's one of the reasons we shouldn't give them so much power over others through big government. Big goverment enables greed rather then fighting it. It enables greed for power (and to a much lesser extent money) by politicians and government officials, and greed for money by private individuals and corporations who manipulate government to their advantage.
