Well-regulated markets are, by definition, not "free". But you missed the point.

If there is regulation sufficient to materially affect the market, it is not free. If there are a sufficient number of regulated markets, then an economy ceases to be a "free market economy."

Since a free market economy is a precondition for freedom, generally, each increment in regulation of an economic system moves the political system closer to socialism or other less desirable forms.

It is a very rare occasion in which bureaucratic regulation can approach the efficiency and performance of a free market. In fact, even in those instances where regulation is called for, markets will usually operate suboptimally as a result of the regulation. Sometimes it is a necessary evil but there is a downside.
