2/19/16 Contest update The algo biotech traders stepped back a bit this week. Maybe they wanted a low profile while Pope Francis was nearby. We all know how much rich guys hate being disgraced by the pontiff. In any case, biotechs managed to end the week with a gain. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -29.32% YTD (vs. down -32.80% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -22.69% YTD (vs. down -25.84% YTD a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -28.71% YTD (vs. down -32.90% a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed down -10.04% YTD (vs. down -13.38% YTD a week ago). DNAJOE’s portfolio, down -15.69% YTD, remained Contest leader, with DODGY’s portfolio, down -15.95% YTD, moving to second place and JBOG’s portfolio, down -16.26% YTD, slipping to third place. At Friday's close, all 58 Contest portfolios were still in the red, with 10 beating the NBI and 27 beating the SPSIBI. The 224 Contest stock picks have an average YTD loss of -27.29% and a median YTD loss of -28.63%. Just 13 of the 224 Contest portfolio stocks are up for the year. Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost. Portfolio adjustments: PRTA substituted for PTRA in BRANKO’s portfolio, with PTRA having been a typo. (All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.) You might consider stress reduction your primary goal for the weekend biotechies! Peace & good health, Bulba
