Funny video. The baby may be ruined.
Erita and Jack do not qualify as fortunate in the moolah aspect. Erita (11) already asked, "dada, are we rich", to which the answer is "no, we make do, work hard, save, and hope we are fortunate enough to be more comfortable."
One night I had her with me at dinner w/ a neighbor and friend who is rich, an ex-American from the south living in a mansion down the road. We do not have many mansions in HK.
Erita was reading her Kindle, bad form we know but allowed for super casual Friday meals at the neighborhood canteen run by French macro refugees.
My friend and I held dialogue and Erita was seemingly oblivious. I made the comment, "no one can even feel rich anymore unless having steady paycheck in this zirp environment, because every cent we spend we are spending capital."
My friend observed that I was correct in thought process but still we must calibrate our remaining capital to what we think the remaining duration could in worst case be, have have at ready a 'vehicle' with upside near the end to make right everything. And, in the meantime spend a little on ourselves / family before it all runs out.
The meal was served and the Coconut put down her Kindle, and asked, "dada, what did uncle mean 'before it all runs out? What happens after it all runs out?"
My friend advised me to not scare the Coconut.
Jack, 5, would voluntarily save the purchase of a Lego set so as to have bus fare to return home, and recently I said that one day he might have to help his sister as his sister is helping him (to read something). He asked suspiciously, "Help? How?". But Jack happily share his goodies as a matter of course, even desserts.
We simply teach the kids to do what they enjoy and keep at it, to get better, is all. Erita was not keen on eventual college education and had until this past summer stated that she will not attend college. We never struggled against her pre-decision.
This past summer she asked two questions, one, how would a ballet dancer make a 'good' living. Answer, they rarely do, unless they operate a successful school, very rare.
Question, "which good college has a good ballet program?"
