Zax,
I'm left wondering if this isn't an Apple marketing position, because if the Chinese government told Apple to hand over the contents of a phone owned by a Chinese citizen, or risk their market share in China in not cooperating with the Chinese government, the safe presumption is that Apple and Cook would hand over the contents (or rather, a software update to get at the contents) rather quickly.
This is why it's incredibly disappointing to see the US government doing this.

What, they think China, North Korea, Russia, Iran, and Syria won't get their hands on the backdoor they want Apple to create?

Whoever said that "smartphone encryption led to the Paris attacks" is an absolute idiot.
