One article. Many studies show that Danes are a lot more satisfied than others, especially Americans.

As to the American pioneering spirit, that has been a century or two since that has been the case. The past few decades has seen social mobility seize up, standards of living stagnant or decline and life for everyone but the very wealthy has not been pleasant. A Donald Trump does not rise to political prominence in a country brimming with optimism. Nor does a Bernie Sanders. Both are a reflection of a population that feels disenfranchised.

If you understand US history, you'd recognize the signs. There has been a populist wave building for a while. The near economic collapse and the resulting lack of changes or action except to shore up the Casino and let them continue their gains gave a focus to the growing rage. Realize it was there, but had no focus.

Last time, turmoil lasted for more than 50 years. The government had to bring out the military to bring the strikers in Appalachia under control. I realize that the mental midgets on the Right hate FDR with a passion, but a lesser president would not have been able to channel the pressures to go full on socialist like FDR did. Someone like Hoover wouldn't have been able to stand against those pressures.

The country in your imagination never existed. The real one it is on the cusp of going through a major realignment. Snark all you want, but all of the signs are there. Recognize it or the changes will be as subtle as a sledgehammer to the head.
