i agree with you, but i didn't want to put a lot of irons in the fire so i didn't post on it. yes, tariffs are harmful.

here's a link to a guy that explains why trade deficits don't matter and along the way shows why tariffs are the most harmful to the imposer. the great walter williams is cited in it. "Walter Williams points out that advocating tariffs is really just a scam on the American public."

you might want to download the paper instead of just opening it because there's no telling how long it will remain there. truly, there's no good reason to impose a tariff for anything. even retaliation. however, most people will never believe that so we end up with stupid, destructive trade wars.
