Trump may be able to win this election and we liberals would never know. Just as we have been wrong about him for months now. We naturally project our own understanding of the world onto conservatives and so we have a great blind spot in understanding of just how much they don't know. To us not only Trump, but the entire Republican clown car is as clear as a bell. There isn't the slightest doubt in any of our minds that none of those Republican nominees are qualified to be president. But apparently it isn't clear to large numbers of people in the country. Just how large is unclear, but they voted in that Dumbo Bush twice. The draw of Trump is that he projects himself as a fearless alpha male. I don't think the right wing would even care if he is mixed up with the organized crime. Which he obviously has been because you cannot own a huge casino in Atlantic city without interacting with them. But to the right wing that probably just shows them that he is a tough guy. Trump showed no fear at all in dealing with any of those Republican nominees and he completely cowed Bush. The tough guy in that group is Cruz, who is also a venal alpha male, but Trump didn't hesitate for a second to go for his throat. The right wing wants simple answers to complex problems e.g. build the wall on the Mexican border and instantaneous simple answers to problems around the world. They think Trump can do this stuff and they're not thinking of the consequences. And they want him to beat up we liberals. His largest voting block are the uneducated. When you think about how Hitler rose to power it was under pretty much the same circumstances and with a similar message i.e. paraphrased:" there is chaos in the streets, yada yada, we need law and order, elect me and I will give you law and order". The people in Germany at the time were probably the highest educated people in the world and yet they bought his message hook line and sinker.
