As I see it, oil is still in the down trend but showing signs that the long decline may be ready to base and eventually move higher. When trends are this long and strong, it's wise not to go against them "too early" (as you noted). The month long base is in place for a rebound but that's not to say it's a given. A fairly tight stop would be my view but to each their own!!

Here's a chart from another thread. It is only one of the charts I use when referencing crude prices but for "demonstration purposes" it defines the current status of the oil price trend very clearly:
