Dead Inventory - Contribution 1
I went to Toys 'R Us, as I mentioned earlier, on Dec 26th (HAHAHA) and after watching 127 returns get processed, there was 1 THQI return (WCW) out of all total returns (almost 225 items in the 127 returns).
I went back tonight to get a status check on the inventory on the shelf, and there was: No WCW, No BassMaster, No Pax (I did not see a shelf spot for it though), No Ghost, No NOTHING from THQI. It appears everything has sold, and there was plenty of other games with pull tags indicating stock was still available.
Two things come to mind :
1. THQI will probably have VERY LITTLE dead inventory to deal with this year.
2. The demand for these games, while strongest right before Christmas, does not drop off a cliff. Instead for a game in high demand, the demand simply is reduced a little and shifted to a future date upon re-supply. A kid that wants WCW is going to get it, just ask his mom, she'll tell you.
I was encouraged, since the demand appears to have been strong, this store was not flooded with excess inventory, and the demand remains good based on the waiting list I signed to reserve my sons copy of WCW.
The horse is surely dead, but THQI is definitely NOT :o)
Regards, JB
P.S. I asked the mananger how I could get that 1 little box called WCW that had been returned the prior day. He said I was a little late, since over 20 people had already come to the return counter inquiring if there had been a return on WCW, and it had been re-sold to someone who had NO concern it had not even been re-shrink wrapped. |
