Several years ago, my Purple Heart Chapter donated a golf cart to the VA hospital in Salisbury, NC for disabled vets to get from their cars to the entrance. I was the chapter treasurer at that time.

My former church donated 50-100 hand made dog-bone shaped pillows twice to the VA hospice in the same VA hospital. And about 600 more (over a year or more) to the women's cancer ward in a local hospital. My wife and I made the deliveries.

My Gold Star sister's quilting club donated 45 American themed quilts to a long term VA ward. My wife and I delivered them.

They would not accept money. In every case we had also received checks to donate. They were offered but not accepted. We returned them.

I am scheduled for several more eye injections at the Durham VA. Next is in 4 weeks. I'll ask questions.

I find it interesting that this conversation is taking place. Why doesn't everyone reading this write a $1,000 check and take it to your nearest VA hospital and see if they accept it. Several years ago, my wife and I did, and took the check home.

So far here on SI, it always something someone else said they did. I see no personal experiences being offered here other than my own.

Why are you even talking to me about Trump's donations, or lack thereof, to the VA if you personally have never attempted to make one, or even donated one minute of your time to assist a disabled vet.
