2/26/16 Contest update
“I love the poorly educated,” gushed Donald Trump in his Nevada primary victory speech. I expect it won’t be long before he proclaims: “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a Ph.D. to enter the kingdom of God."
Whether or not they yearn for Trump’s affection, I imagine more than a few of the highly educated in our Contest wish they were even more educated before picking their portfolios. That’s certainly the case for me.
Meanwhile, biotechs failed to follow up on last week’s mini-rally. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -31.11% YTD (vs. down -29.32% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -22.79% YTD (vs. down -22.69% YTD a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -29.76% YTD (vs. down -28.71% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed down -8.33% YTD (vs. down -10.04% YTD a week ago).
DNAJOE’s portfolio, down -14.08% YTD, held on to the Contest lead, with JBOG’s portfolio, down -15.18% YTD, moving into second place and ROCKY’s’s portfolio, down -15.54% YTD, taking third place.
At Friday's close, all 58 Contest portfolios remained in the red, with just 7 beating the NBI and 24 beating the SPSIBI. The 224 Contest stock picks have an average YTD loss of -27.62% and a median YTD loss of -28.86%. A mere 16 of the 224 Contest portfolio stocks are up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost.
Portfolio adjustments: None
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Have a safe & fun leap year weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
