This has probably been suggested before, but just in case.

Add a suspension feature for the moderators that can be triggered to a specific period of time.

For instance, you have been suspended from posting for three days.

Then instead of being told in the message "you're banned from posting", with a start another board suggestion, the message says "You have been suspended from posting on this board till ------------date.

That would do two things.

1. Automate the suspension process so the moderator doesn't have to remember the date of return.
2. Inform the person privately he has been suspended with a return period clearly spelled out.

Just a thought....
