Thanks very much for the replies. I have seriously thought about having multiple devices, but my crude arithmetic indicates that just one top line tablet would cost much the same. One of the things that won't work well on any e-reader is large self published technical "books" or academic papers with lots of charts and diagrams, especially colour, published under PDF standards. There is a surprising amount of (mostly free) self published semi-academic technical stuff being produced these days, and I happen to have personal interests in this. This implies that I would need to have either Android or Windows op systems in the mix of devices, so it appears that I am going to have to have a non-e-reader (not Kobo or Kindle) anyway.

I am really impressed by the e-ink screens. They are really like paper, and nice even after a couple of hours heavy reading. Samsung's S series AMOLED display is the closest in quality to the e-ink technology, it seems.

It's a pity that something like e-ink is not available for cheap devices other than dedicated e-readers.

Tony.
