Smirnoff is not that good but they are a well known brand.

You may be surprised to know this but almost no one uses potatoes to make Vodka

Vodka is best when it has no noticeable flavor - the easiest way to get to there
is to make the Vodka straight from sugar with a clean super-yeast and then filter.

The Stills I built produced at 93% alcohol - that left 7% for water and impurities.

Getting out bad flavor is difficult - I tried to clean up some Vodka I made from a
batch of Mash that fermented too long as I was away on a trip to Canada. The mash
went a little sour so I distilled it and then I put the 90% alcohol solution back into
a clean still and added about 2/3 clean water and reran it. It cleaned up a little but it
was not worth the re-run. I got it up to about Smirnoff quality by using Charcoal and
Activated Carbon but it never came up to my usual grade. I took it and made stuff
like Kahlua and Coffee liqueur fake whiskey and the like.

But as to Brand Name Value - yes - I had people who drank my Vodka who hated Smirnoff
but my brand was unknown to the world - in fact when I would drink it I forgot the name myself
