Pelosi warns GOP about booting Trump

By Susan Ferrechio ( @susanferrechio) • 3/3/16 12:11 PM

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi warned Thursday that it wouldn't be wise for Republicans to broker a deal that crowns another Republican candidate as the party's presidential nominee if Donald Trump earns the majority of delegates in the upcoming primaries.

"To the Republicans, if they think they are going to upset the verdict of the people in terms of the election, that can really become a very big Pandora's box," Pelosi said. "If someone has the majority of the delegates, from the votes of the people, I think you change that to your peril."

Rumors have swirled in the Capitol about a plot to dethrone Trump, who has angered the GOP establishment with his brash campaign style, proposal to ban Muslim entrants and a pledge to build a wall on the Mexican border. Republicans have said nothing officially about any plans to use the July Republican National Convention to contest a Trump win.

Instead, GOP leaders are taking shots at Trump hoping to hurt his performance in the remaining primaries in order to deprive him of the 1,237 delegates needed to win the nomination.

Yes, Democrats and the media want Trump. First, he'll be easier to beat. Second, even if he wins, he'll be malleable and flexible (take it from Robert Reich and Jimmy Carter) and make deals with them.

Trump promises to have a good and close relationship with Democratic leaders:
