3/4/16 Contest update
Micro-cap biotechs finally had a decent week! And it happened not a moment too soon. In a few days my wife and I are off to Japan where it appears our dollars get as much respect as The Donald’s hands.
This was evident at the website of a famed Kyoto kaiseki restaurant where I ventured to make a reservation. The price looked fair, about $60 per person after converting yen to dollars. Ready to punch in my credit card info I noticed I made a small error doing the conversion, somehow missing a zero. Yeah, $600 per person! Guess it will be a Ramen Holiday.
And while I’m holidaying in the Land of the Rising Sun, Contest groupies will be able to enjoy an update holiday until April 1.
But here are the numbers for this week. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -26.76% YTD (vs. down -31.11% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -22.20% YTD (vs. down -22.79% YTD a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -25.98% YTD (vs. down -29.76% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed down -5.80% YTD (vs. down -8.33% YTD a week ago).
DNAJOE’s portfolio, down -8.48% YTD, remained our Contest leader, with GHMM’s portfolio, down -13.18% YTD, climbing to second place and JBOG’s portfolio, down -14.77% YTD, slipping to third place.
At Friday's close, all 58 Contest portfolios continued in the red, with 12 beating the NBI and 26 beating the SPSIBI. The 224 Contest stock picks have an average YTD loss of -24.48% and a median YTD loss of -24.90%. And 22 of the 224 Contest portfolio stocks are up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Have a terrific rest of March biotechies!
Sayonara!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
