Migrating ducks have been found to be a incubator of swine flue
but it is not known if this can mutate in humans to cause the
influenza virus to spread. The seasonal nature of the virus points
to such a mechanism though. If the chickens caught this virus from farms where doemstic ducks mixed with migrating ducks as is often seen
elsewhere then this could supply a vector either for introducktion
or spread of the disease.

The chicken kill may have been premature. There have been found several hundred Hong Kongians with antibodies to the disease, indicating that is has been around for a while. Evidently this is a deadly strain. Rickettsia which is found in chickens can also be passed to humans yet we don't see a tendency to finish foul because of this. It is hard to say whether this is chicken-human or a human chicken sort of pass either. Also although I wouldn't want to test it, the eating of chicken may not cause the disease.

On another note, mad cow which is now officially classed as Kreutzfeld-Jacob was found in 250 cases in the Canadian blood supply.
Guess the beef scare was more serious than anticipated. That one may be time bomb too. It seems that the refeeding of protein from dead infected animals was rampant, making herds that never had the original
British strain just as suspect as ones with the animals. All beef herds and other animals that fed on protein supplement made from animal parts should have been destroyed.

American and european cattle may be suspect too. Researchers are waiting for the first american case. Apparently the range fed cattle of Argentina would be free though.
