Off Subject... In general, what you say about French gratitude to the US, and the role of the Resistance in WW 2 is all too true. Perhaps I am biased, because I admit to a great fondness for France, but I believe that many of the more thoughtful and educated French people don't share the myopic views of their government. On a one to one basis, I have nearly always been treated well in France ( they even tolerate my feeble attempts at speaking Frenglish.) When it's really important and when they think it is more than a pointless PR ploy, they usually stand with the U.S. The rest of the time they are self-appointed gadflies. Good or bad, the French are always somehow different and unique. I believe it was Mark Twain who said that if you take a cold hungry dog off the streets , the dog will love you forever. If you do the same to most men, they will hate you for it.
