I have held this stock for several years only to watch its fortunes rise and fall, but still hopeful for its long term success. However, I just read an article in a local newspaper about an Oregon Dr. Albert Krause who has pioneered the use of a heart valve made of pig tissue. He is now teaching other doctors around the world how to install the valve. According to the article it offers very good durability, flexibility and ease of blood flow. Medtronic markets the new valve which was approved in Nov. by the FDA after trials in 21 medical centers in the US and other countries. It was first implanted in 1992, so trials have been going on for some time. It's called the Freestyle and does not require plastic or or metal frames to hold it in place as mechanical valves do. Dr. Krause indicated that it may be more durable than the St. Jude device because it is modified to reduce buildup of calcium-the major cause of tissue valve failure.
All this is merely a summary of the article. I am trying to find what implications this may have for St Jude, but so far have found no opinions or other information. Will try to call St. Jude customer relations Monday for their (probably biased) opinion. If this appears to be a major competitive threat, I am out even after five years with the stock and add to my Biogen (BGEN) and Norrell (NRL)!

Good Luck
