I know all of this. Sure are a lot of SUNW engineers and expert business people out there that would have you believe that that isn't the case and that SUNW promotes open standards and nonproprietarity. Open all the way up to SUNW's interest, then closed. Reminds me of Apple's iconoclasm against the previous Evil Empire. Apple became worse than its antagonist. I wonder why the government didn't launch anti-trust against the Sun workstation monopoly? It was a good monopoly, that's why. You're right not 70% of server but 50% with the next major supplier at 20%. That is market dominance. Now I should have said at least 70% of the workstation market which is currently eroding. Sun is trying to protect their share lead by any methods available. Why would universities spend 4 times the dough for what they could get with equal performance? Sun must be arm-twisting.
