It's been observed Trump does better in open primaries and caucuses where he benefits from votes from Democrats.

9 of the 12 states in which he came in first were open or semi-closed primary or caucus states. The closed states he's won are NV, LA and KY.

5 of Cruz's 6 wins have been in closed primary and caucus states. His open primary win was his home state of TX. Now note that almost all of the western states are closed primary or caucus states. If you go up from OK to ND and then west to the Pacific states (incl AK & HA) they're all closed except NB & UT, which are semi-closed. Also note that NY, CT, PA, MD, & DE are another bloc of closed primary states in the NE.

While Trump can win closed primary states, he's certainly not going to run the board on these numerous closed states coming up. And the fewer opponents he is facing the worse he'll do.

I wish Cruz and Rubio would form a unity ticket. Such a Cruzio unity ticket would stomp Trump imo.
