I'll just reiterate what Exploration Guy notes: no money was exchanged for the Liard shares ... CF still owns the ones they owned before.

I will add, however, that consolidation is common for companies wanting to raise funds (which point you made already), but also for those trying to attract a certain kind of investor - institutions generally don't invest in penny stocks, and so it's an advantage to have your share price north of one dollar if you are trying to attract institutional interest in your company.
