SA--I think you may have missed my main point about management problems caused by combining two different cultures. It's not distance as much as it is mindset. When Xerox shifted its headquarters, it also shifted an emphasis from manufacturing quality and efficiency to financial benefits from being closer to financing sources. Xerox came to be managed by those with a typical business administration financial outlook rather than engineering talents, which developed the first successful, reasonably priced copier.

Suppose that WDC continues to give priority to improving its existing hard drive business, beefing it up with solid state add-ons that improve overall speed, but still leave you with what is essentially nothing more than an upgraded hard drive. How many SNDK engineers will relish being treated as country cousins before they join another firm, such as Pure Storage? Is this worrisome? It is to me because, as an investor for more than 60 years, I've seen these things before.
