If you're a young journalist like Michael Hastings who used one of his first big assignments to do a hatchet-job on the General who let you live with him and follow him around, you'll certainly never get to ambush anyone else in the future. Who would give a person like that an interview? After Hastings ruined McCrystal's career, and followed up with an entire book based on this interview, Michael Hasting's career in interview journalism was obviously over. So he was an "editor" essentially emeritus for Rolling Stone, while he earned a living working for BuzzFeed. BuzzFeed's office is less than 20 blocks from where I live in an area surrounded by cheap apartments where these young paid-not-very-much reporters live. It's only ten blocks from Highland Avenue south of Melrose where Michael Hastings died in his entry-level Mercedes. Do you think one of McCrystal's friends took the time to run him off the road one Highland Avenue? I suppose it's possible. That very busy 6-block rocket-way between Melrose and Wilshire is two very narrow lanes in each direction with a median in the center planted with very old palm trees. There could be a third lane in each direction, but this is always filled with the parked cars of people who live there or are eating at nearby restaurants. The very nice homes on that street which years ago saw leisurely traffic, are now mostly owned by Orthodox Jews who saw a bargain and pack a lot residents into those former single-family homes. They've converted one of those homes into their synagogue. Since I myself have frequently driven down that stretch of Highland Avenue at 60 mph when we're coming back from dinner, along with most everyone else. I think he just got into an accident. Only a few weeks ago some gomer cluelessly pulled onto Highland in front of me, possibly one of the Hassidic woman drivers who live there. I and others on this two lane speedway had to make some rapid steering, braking and accelerating actions to avoid an accident with this dingbat. So if the amphibian people from Mars who control the world were after us that night they failed and will have to try again.
