Unfortunately, the money will end up coming out of the taxpayer's pocket.

I don't think the courts can decide this sets no other precedence for later courts. IMO, it has to set a precedence as that is the way our system is set up. Either a company is compelled or they are not compelled. There is no middle ground.

My big worry is if Apple loses, then every country in the world will point to the decision of the American court and demand the same outcome (Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, third world dictator, etc.). I find that worrisome as Apple consumers will no longer be secure in the products they use from the company.
