I think Wayne made a smart move re: Veeco. He obviously determined
that the only way SMIT was going to realize its full potential on the
measurement side was to hook up with someone who could move volume
out the door. Hooray for Wayne. I also think he actually did the deal
so that he can stop spending his time peddling measurement systems,
and instead pursue other applications for their technology.
My questions, however, are several:
1) Is this an exclusive deal, i.e. do all measurement systems now go
through Veeco? (you mentioned some other pending OEM deal, tell me more!).
2) In giving up the top 40% on each sale, can SMIT reach its target
of 12MM sales, 36 earnings for 97? (I need to run the numbers myself).
3) What else is SMIT getting for giving this 40% discount?
4) How soon will Veeco start taking delivery? Will they maintain an
inventory of TMS2000s?
5) And the biggest question of all, what are the prospects for using
Veeco's robotics division to design a system to get SMIT tied in to
the production lines of every production facility out there.

Thanks again for keeping the line running. I had once again gotten lazy.
One last thought, do you have any idea when SMIT will become marginable?
I could have made a nice little pop over the last two weeks, if only
I had a little leverage to spend.
Brian
