OK, raise your hand if you think Microsoft Corp. will behave
in any fundamentally different way beginning today.

No takers? I thought so.

OK, now raise your hand if you think the U.S. Justice
Department is going to use its victory Thursday as just the
beginning shot in a much longer war.

(Some of you, of course, believe that my entire stance on
Microsoft is wrong; strict libertarians and followers of Ayn
Rand's objectivism insist there can be no legitimate
governmental interference with free enterprise, that the antitrust
laws themselves are what's wrong, not the behavior of Microsoft
and other companies. That's a wonderful topic for debate, and
we'll do that in future columns.)
