"share of murders committed with firearms declined sharply" Sure but actual murder only decline modestly. Who cares about the share for each type of murder? The change in the overall number of murders is vastly more important then how many are committed in various different ways. Australia started out with a lower murder rate then the US, but when it restricted guns more the murder rate didn't decline as much as the rate in the US, during a period when the number of guns in the US grew fairly rapidly.
