That’s not just a win, that’s the kind of crushing defeat not seen since Bill Clinton knocked incumbent president George H.W. Bush out of the White House in 1992. It would be even more significant since a political party keeping the presidency for 3 terms in a row is an uphill battle.

You should already know who Silver is but just in case you don’t, he’s the guy whose 2012 election predictions were so ridiculously accurate that he was hounded out of the New York Times. This was because he was screwing up the manufactured horse race that generates hundreds of millions in revenue for news outlets that need a close race to attract eyeballs. When you know, a month in advance, who’s going to win an election, there’s no suspense. No suspense means less viewers. Less viewers mean less money.
