The 1989 to 1996 crash was a time to make money, with 1993 the bottom in Los Angeles.

Foreclosures everywhere and they weren't being acquired by hedge funds prior to hitting the market.

Even hotels rates were good, as the Biltmore in Santa Barbara charged $99 a night for outstanding rooms, the bungalows somewhat more.
