My friend doesn't perform loop qualifications. He tells me Lucent and DSC will both provide their DLC solution for a MASS deployment. Those issues that your friend is discoving will be solved by shortening the copper loop lengths. DSC and Lucent are both working on the next step of VDSL/SDV with BA. BA's ramp starts before mid-98, that's what he tell's me. The notion that BA isn't working these issue, is false. I don't think you've made that statement, but others have.

BA has publicly stated they have a separate contract with DSC to upgrade the outside plant copper to a Digital Loop Carrier solution. They have also publicly stated that they are upgrading at over 1,000,000 lines per year.

My neighborhood is a perfect example of being > 18,000ft from a CO, ,actually 4-5 miles from the CO, and being upgraded to a DLC solution. I'll be < 1 mile from the DLC and able to get 6Mbps service.... until later.
