Joe , re. buying an existing Fab
If you do a few calculations on possible Fab25 output of K6 using .25.
You will find that using 60% yield and lowering the 6000 wafers per week which is the claimed max on .35 to say 4000 wafers , the possible
quarterly output of that plant is close to 12M k6s or approaching 50m
per year . What they need to do is utilise their present capacity buying another fab would IMO not benefit AMD or shareholders . Don't forget they are well along in building their next Fab in germany .
With the production potential of these newer sub micron technologies
the danger is overspending on too many fabs ,
regards , Brian
