For 1998 I nominate AOL. Many believe that it is a high risk short. I would suggest puts instead of shorting, as part of an overall bear strategy. I have gone both ways on AOL. Bottom line, AOL is valued at $9 billion. I am not convinced that solid earnings or any earnings will ever come along to justify that valuation. When the story unravels it could unravel hard. If so (chances are not great but they are good), buying puts at the right time would be a huge win. Might be a while yet though, perhaps better for 2001...
