Charles - Re: ..the Customer would be buying the SX knowing
that it wouldnt work on say Spreadsheet applications."

I believe that you have a consistent problem in not understanding the technical issues associated with many aspects of PCs.

First - the 80486SX works just fine with spreadsheets - these spreadsheets generally employ two libraries for FPU calcualtions. One library utilizes the built in x87 FPU processor (or equivalent) if available. The second library uses software emulation routines to emulate the FPU operations if no hardware FPU is located. In this latter case, the recalculations work the same - just very slow compared to the former case (hardware FPU).

Some software - AUTOCAD for instance - explicitly requires an FPU. Read the package for system requirements before purchase.

As for the X2 and KFLEX modems - most are provided with flash EPROM upgradability since they use software programmable DSPs for the basic modem functions. 3COM will soon be offering an upgrade for the US Robotics modems to work with the "proposed" international standard, although I have heard of some problems with "beta" version of this upgrade.
