Hal: >> Lucent is not used in BA territory for NGDLC, only DSC for NGDLC systems. BA has the old Series 5 and SLC 96 equipment from AT&T that does not work with RADSL. I know LU is supposedly working on Series 5 upgrades for RADSL with WSTL, but in actual field upgrades I think you'll see BA only will use DSC. <<

We have a 5ESS 2000 switch sitting in the basement of our building, where Bell Atlantic employee's are located. Granted that is hearsay, but you may want to check it out with your friend. The 5ESS 2000 is Lucent's NGDLC system. LU has been working on the SDV side in trials for some time now. DSC has a contract with BA for the VDSL side with the Litespan unit.

As I said in my previous statement:

DSC and Lucent are both working on the next step of VDSL/SDV with BA.

Longer loops are being shorten with the DLC system. I'll ask when it's coming online.

The DSC line card should be ready 1Q98 and Lucent's card in 4Q98.

... Lucent's SLC-2000 and SLC Series 5 digital loop carriers are the most widely deployed systems in the United States....

westell.com

Lucent is going to sell Westell's DSLAM, BA is deploying only a DLC solution.... what other RBOC would be interested in a Westell solution... until later.
