The Fed only has to resort to bizarre policies if Congress remains dead-set in wanting to see the American economy destroyed.

The Fed has done what it can, now it's time for Congress to finally act.

I'm pretty sure they'll relent, just as the Blue Dog Democrats did in 1936. Nothing unnerves a conservative Senator or Congress-member quite like having hundreds or thousands of business CEOs visiting you explaining how you're destroying the country.

After the telegrams and CEOs in person descended on Congress it took them less than 2 weeks to reauthorize funding for the New Deal programs. They spent a good deal of their time over the next couple of years apologizing repeatedly.

I think Germany did the right thing with Greece, and I'd love to see Italy in enough financial pain to sort out their catastrophe of an economy, but Germany too at some point is going to have to deal with the aftermath of the 2006 - 2008 economic implosion and the resulting economic depression. It's not healthy for this to be lingering as it is in Spain, Portugal and France.
