Hitler rose to power at a different time and in a different age. And one has to remember that Germany was very militaristic and very conformist. In fact Germany had a very similar culture to Japan.

In both cultures at the time, neither liberal arts, or liberals in general were in control. I specifically said where the liberals control the culture and liberals were persecuted in both Germany and in Japan in the 1930's.

I once read the most wonderful analysis of how Hitler rose to power and it revolved around their culture of militarism and conformity.

I read some comments a while back by the granddaughter of Heinrich Himmler who had written a book on her grandfather. She said her greatest disappointment was that she could find no one in her family that challenged Hitler.

In fact, a great story one might tell about those two great nations is how quickly they were able to adapt to modern times after the end of the second world war and today are two of the most advanced countries on earth with regard to both humanity and social sophistication. I credit that to their underlying education which provided a culture which taught thinking.

The great John Maynard Keynes was once being chided by someone for saying something different than what he had said when he was younger. He told the person:' when the facts change, I change my mind, what do you do sir>" :)>?
