Tobacco companies clearly lied. Also their product is clearly helpful. The oil companies aren't even certainly wrong, let along lying (which is much more than just being wrong), and their product is clearly a massive net benefit to the world.

The tobacco companies lied to get people to use a product that harms them. The oil companies sell people a useful and important product.

And things go to far even against the tobacco companies. They've including health warnings for decades. Reasonably any liability should only be from before that time.
