Cash flow from SanDisk, combined with that from Western Digital, may be sufficient to maintain the dividend, but only if growth continues at its rapid pace for enterprise/cloud servers. In the discussions here on whether the SNDK--WDC merger is viable, I see little or no reference to the 800 lb. gorilla – Intel – and its domination of the server market. The reason Intel is a significant factor is that Intel is making various types of NAND flash memory, aimed mainly at the server market, which, now that the PC hard drive market is stagnant, is the main market for WDC equipment.
