Slob,
Re -- If you look at the flash / eeprom markets companies like Microchip and even Atmel are still making a lot of money with integrated Flash microcontrollers. Also PLD's..

There is no doubt, that AMD will have to reinvent themselves to focus on these markets. They also cannot spread themselves thin, and compete in all segments. Atmel,Xlnx,Altera etc.. are focused on single segments. Thus they may have to focus on either flash, pld or wireless only.

Unfortunately re-inventing takes a lot of time,if they decide to do it, their stock will trade in the mid single digits, until they prove they can do it.

Re -- The part I don't understand is how they think they can defeat Intel by cornering the Low profit end of the market.

The problem is they don't realize they are playing in the low end market. They think they are competing in the sweet spot (the midrange) market. They should read SI and keep a more open mind.

Re -- AMD is a take-over cadidate at any price below $10...

AMD has traded in the high single digits before, with no take over offers. Their DEBT is real obstacle for any takeovers. Furthermore AMD is Jerry's company, its unlikely he will sell it soon.
