4/8/16 Contest update
A whopping Wednesday rally made the week a very good one for biotechs. Why the rally? There can be only one explanation. And that is ...?
Meanwhile, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -21.99% YTD (vs. down -27.78% YTD 3/31/16), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -18.05% YTD (vs. down -22.98% YTD 3/31/16) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -20.61% YTD (vs. down -26.40% YTD 3/31/16). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed down -3.13% YTD (vs. down -2.75% YTD 3/31/16).
DNAJOE’s portfolio, now up 11.53% YTD, remained Contest leader with still the only portfolio in the green. But second place GHMM’s portfolio, down -4.26% YTD, and third place GENE’s portfolio, down -5.87% YTD, are getting very close to positive territory.
At Friday’s close, 57 of the 58 Contest portfolios continued in the red, with 18 beating the NBI and 23 beating the SPSIBI. The 224 Contest stock picks had an average YTD loss of -19.09% and a median YTD loss of -20.77%, with 38 of the 224 Contest portfolio stocks up for the year.
