Well, let us leave aside all the trite and too well-worn stereotypes of the Left and the Right. America is trying to elect a leader who will honor the Constitution and will improve how the American people exist in their country and in the world.
Now I am a Canadian. So in many ways this election affects me very deeply. I am sleeping next to an elephant, and every move that elephant makes determines what sort of sleep I am going to have. For starters, America is the largest trading partner we have and a collapse of her economy, or any disarray in her domestic and/or foreign policies, will send tidal waves of chaos across our land.
So this conversation is not merely an exercise in academia. Canada is the second largest country in the world. And we also (as the United States) represent the rule of civilization and the sanctity of the individual.
Let us begin with Bernie Sanders. Does he have any chance whatsoever of winning either the nomination or the Presidency? No. He does not. Everything he believes is subversive to the American Constitution and the American dream. Only when America was formed did the individual come to have any guaranteed rights and freedoms. The individual was a meaningless component of life-- to be used by the tribe, the community, the group. Sanders would have it that way once again. He would have the individual an object to be used for the benefit of those who would be ruling his system of re-distribution. Society would wring the juice from every lemon and reduce the American Dream to a Totalitarian Nightmare
But again, he is not in the picture in any way, shape, or form--so I will move on.
How about Hilary? Well, she has a ton of experience and myriad connections. She is certainly a long way from stupid. And in the liberal way, she clearly has values and ideas that matter to her as a person. Fine. But what will 4 years of Hillary do to America given the current climate? Will the country rally behind her to tackle all the internal and external problems and threats? Of course...we both know the answer is a resounding, “NO”. The grid-lock will continue and will worsen. There will be acts of civil disobedience. There will be confusion and disarray. There will be HATE. And always there will be a house divided. The current polarization between Republicans and Democrats will intensify. The animosity will thicken and become more and more embittered. The undeclared civil war will become more and more entrenched.
And the debt will continue to spiral out of control—especially as she will know with certainty that after her term it will be another party saddled with solving that problem. It happens in Canada too. When they know they are on the way out, they invite all their friends to the trough and nobody takes out the trash.
And perhaps worst of all: It would be BORING as all Hell! America needs a new corner to look around. It needs a fork in the road. It needs a new face to the people. And just as importantly…it needs a new face to the world.
The Republicans will not vote for Hillary: Not even the half-wits currently claiming that they will. And many of those Democrats currently backing Sanders are stating they will not vote for Hillary. And that is a different dynamic. They actually won’t.
So one of two Republicans will be nominated: Trump or Cruz. Let us consider their values.
Cruz is a “true” conservative: A dying breed with an atavistic gene very suitable for confronting the atavism existing in the Islamic religion. Many of his ideas are absurd and unworkable. But the people are still his boss and his most ridiculous plans would be tempered by the democratic process. He won’t get rid of the IRS and he won’t carpet-bomb anybody. He would be no friend of women’s rights or minority rights, but again…civilization has advanced too far to permit the dinosaurs to once again rule the hearts and the minds of people.
On the plus side--nobody will kick sand in his face. Others will be fearful and suspicious both within and without…but America will be feared once again by those in the religious/tribal war against her. That war will not end until there is a clear victor. Pretending there is not a religious war to the death (openly declared on a daily basis) is to pretend the sun revolves around the earth.
Let’s look at Trump—the man who is causing such a commotion. He says he is a “common-sense” conservative. Well, what does that mean? It means he is a “common-sense” liberal, as well. He represents the middle ground that America has never had. He opposes the extremes of both ideologies.
Does he lie? Of course, he lies. He would make a damn poor businessman and a worse President were he incapable of dissemination, misdirection, and camouflaging his objectives. When he lies about his core beliefs is when he suffers politically. His attempts to appease dinosaurs in their hatred of planned Parenthood puts him at his worst, because he fully supports human rights across the board.
Making deals with the most powerful people in the world over towers and yachts and multi-million dollar consortiums is not like contracting to build a $10,000.00 cabin at the lake! And (successfully) standing against the allied might—the incredible Resources, Money, Connections, and Power of the GOP establishment--is not what weak men do! If elected (as is likely) he will make America into a successful Corporation once again, with a powerful Board of Directors to oversee the goal of “America First”.
ALL the crap about racism, etc. etc. is propaganda. His family represents his character and his values.
He pretends to hold some of the backward values of the extreme Conservatives because he must to win the election. But the Farwell’s and the Robertson’s are a dying breed. They will only have influence and power again, if the religious war currently being waged is allowed to expand and widen. When fear and hate overwhelms, then reason can be shoved aside in favor of any ideology that promises safety and freedom from fear and tension.
Trump is a pragmatist. He goes with what works. Provided his goals are pure (they are), his actions will be reasoned and self-serving for the American people. Any extreme conservative views he pretends to entertain may be apparent but they are not real.
That is how I see it. I am neither conservative nor liberal. In terms of exalting the individual and protecting the individual from other people (i.e. government) I am very conservative. In terms of protecting the individual from religious groups, whose “Constitution” is supernatural and self-serving to adherents--and which cannot be subjected to reason or honest discourse--I am very liberal. Using religion as an engine of social policy is completely against the Constitution and against individual rights and freedoms. A bit of a mixed economy seems to be a pragmatic necessity in any nation where inequality and economic disparity is so prevalent. In other words, it is self-serving to voluntarily use government as a tool to give options to the poor, the sick, and the afflicted that make them contributors rather than burdens to all--and that gives alternatives to criminal activities--where our communities and our families...are terrorised and subjected to harm.
In spite of the vile and the clever invective and misrepresentations being hurled against him by the GOP Establishment and all their assorted Dupes, Trump is still the hope of thoughtful, intelligent Republicans. And he will also bring in the undecided--and a huge number of democrats--those who feel they have no viable alternative in the Communist and the Clan.
Donald Trump is not a Conservative and he is not a liberal. He is just a man. Whether or not he is a good man or a smart man is for America to decide. But don’t decide based on propaganda and especially not by the propaganda spewed on SI by dupes of the establishment media. Instead…read his books. He has written several. Then tell others what you agree with or disagree with based on his actual values which are presented in his books (with occasionally some necessary masking)! What a concept. Don’t we get the true story from Romney? Or from SI dupes?! :-) |
