When you give the figure 90% to 10%, that may very well be true over a large population. But I can assure you that it is going to differ with individuals. It depends on how much a person has built their mind up. In my opinion, the meaning to life is first to be kind, but after that it is to develop the mind.

When you talk about emotions, you're talking about people who rely primarily on their inherited biological mind as it is hardwired. But humans have the ability to develop new minds that can override the old primitive animal mind. That is why, when you go to areas where people have taken the time to develop their minds you find very little violent crime, compared to areas where they don't know how to develop their minds or haven't had the opportunity. And so they don't have the intellectual ability, to override primitive emotions and in fact that is why so many poor people wind up in jail, or vote for trump-lol.

When one takes the time to fill their mind with important information, the brain organizes that information and sort of builds software programs, computers in the brain, that are used to adapt to modern civilization. But this is something that is not known by very many people, including university people who still see people as being either smart, or not so smart, and completely misunderstand that the thesis of intellectual capability revolves around development of the mind.

Developing the mind is exactly the same as developing the body. Look how people today understand the importance of exercising and weightlifting, etc. The mind works exactly the same way. One has to actively fill it with information and exercise it. The more one does this the stronger the mind gets and the more software they have to override the old animal brain.

I'm still amazed that the academics are so far behind with regard to this concept.
